Day One

It was only a few hours ago that I can remember walking round my house in anxiety mulling over an impossible decision.

What do I write today? How do I write it? What if it’s not as good as the last? Even worse, what if it’s not good at all? I would be a failure.

The key to getting things done is to separate yourself from the event. If it doesn’t go well, it is the event that is a failure…and you? You have learnt from the failure.

It is easier said than done because some days are really hard. Even harder than some days is day one. The start of something new, your new article, your new business, your new marketing campaign, your final year project, your journey to a new path.

On those days I look to this quote to find inspiration:

*inserts motivational quote about how we’re doing ourselves if we don’t start.*

Rome was not built in one day but it would never have been built without day one.

Stop being hard on yourself and start already because the truth is that you will fail, and so will the rest of us. It is the lessons from failure that would make us great in the end.

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
